Junior Data Engineer

What you will do

As Junior Data Engineer at de Bijenkorf you will become part of one of the largest and most data-informed retail organizations in the Netherlands. Your team is responsible for the development and management of the data platform of de Bijenkorf. This environment supports all data-driven decisions within the Bijenkorf organization. You will help build a best in class solution, which will ensure that de Bijenkorf becomes and remains the most data-informed e-tailer in the Netherlands.

The Data Engineering team is responsible for the foundation of our Data Platform on GCP.
This includes:

  • Developing reliable and scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT in Python).
  • Defining standards for our Data Platform.
  • Developing high quality data products and tooling looking at performance, code quality, data validation and data governance.
  • Building data products and tooling according to quality principles such as code quality, data validation, data governance and findability.
  • Sharing learnings and best practices with the data team.
  • Collaborating with internal teams around data issues.
  • Spotting opportunities for improving our data platform and implementing them. 

This is a great opportunity to co-decide within the Data Engineering domain about standards, way of working and with which technologies. You are a sparring partner for Data Analysts, Data Scientist and other stakeholders for the best approach for various Data issues. You will work on the data platform for the entire organization and work with a wide range of domains such as supply chain, stores, ecommerce, marketing/sales, customer data etc. among others.

You will be working with Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Composer/Apache Airflow), Python, Terraform

Who we are looking for

You are someone with strong problem-solving skills and enjoy thinking about and testing new solutions. You have an interest in data engineering best practices and how Data & Analytics can be deployed in an organization

  • Bachelor's /master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar
  • Strong knowledge of Python and experience with data engineering tools
  • Experience with SQL and database management
  • Experience with APIs
  • Be driven, ambitious, eager to learn and proactive
  • Self-starting, test & Learn attitude, self-learning ability
