About the position of Team Lead Data Engineering

Within de Bijenkorf our E-commerce team is the youngest and fastest growing department. Here, a team of 160 digital natives work together on the further growth and professionalization of our digital services.

As Team Lead Data Engineering you are part of the Technology department within our E-commerce organization. The Technology department supports the development and innovation for our website and stores.

The Data Engineering team is responsible for the further optimization and development of our data warehouse. You will work closely together with a team of Data Analysts and Data Scientists of the different departments and support them by adding various data sources. In your role as Team lead you will not only represent the team to the rest of the organization, you are also a hands-on Data Engineer yourself. You will report to the IT Program Manager.

Your main tasks and responsibilities

Your main task and responsibility as a Team Lead Data Engineering is to manage a small team of junior but talented engineers that is responsible for:

  • Ensuring the continuity of our data warehouse and Tableau server;
  • Building new ETL pipelines for the data warehouse (Vertica column store database);
  • Structuring of data to formal definitions and useable data sources.

How you complete our team

We are looking for an ambitious hands-on Data Engineer with a passion for (online) retail. You are capable of managing current systems and are interested in expanding and optimizing these. You are fascinated by business processes and how to improve them.

Next to this, you recognize yourself in the profile below:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering or data science;
  • A relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree;
  • Knowledge of modern tools like Airflow, Spark, et cetera;
  • Experience with managing and coaching small teams;
  • Proven experience in database design, modelling and best practice;
  • Strong SQL skills;
  • Experience with analytical scripting languages like Python;
  • Experience with Linux and Cloud (GCP) environments;
  • Experience with data vault;
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinker and a strong communicator;
  • Structured, proactive team player;
  • Experience with Scrum or Kanban.
